say Krispy K___!

life is like a roller coster ride – up, down, left, right, around we go again…
My last night in Singapore before leaving to Shanghai.
The choice was Jaan at Swisshotel. It was an initimate setting with not more than 15 tables.
Swirling the rosé wine in our glasses, such in luck that they have rosé.
And toast to a good internship in Shanghai.
We opted for the degustation set.
Starting off with Amuse Bouche. Prawn sashimi with (I think) plum sorbet.
The combination may sound weird but the taste was amazingly compatible.
We knew it would be an enjoyable evening.
“Fogotten vegetables” autum version, ocean trout confit in citrus oil, arbequina olive oil sorbet.
I do wonder why it’s named “forgetten vegetables”.
All the pieces came in mini-size, so exquisite that I spent some time admiring the symphony and I didn’t know where to start. When I went on the first piece, Kelvin was already half-way through. And we have fun guessing which one was the olive oil sorbet.
Grilled tuna belly, smoked basil oil and aromatic charcoal powder.
Nothing can go wrong with Otoro, simply wonderful.
In the menu, it wrote “Truffle or Foie Gras upon arrival”.
To our delight, it was truffle and foie gras. The strong rich truffle mousse totally blew me off. And the pairing with foie gras sandwiched with the crisp is just so awesome. (oh no, I’m craving for it now….)
Marbie body baked in salt crust, “Emilie” crab bouilion and its crispy rissole.
One word – “Fresh”!
Slow roasted “Pre sale” lamb saddle, wild rice carbonara and liquidized sweet peas.
This was slightly anti-climax. The previous dishes were probably too outstanding.
This one didn’t shine out much. We still love the lamb racks in Bangkok Central.
Pre-Dessert – Brandied Cherries
Dessert de la Saison – rich chocolate cake. So yummy.
Le Petit Fours – the berries popsicle coated with white chocolate is so refreshing.
Such a great dinner. I would love to be back for another round.
Oh well, i’m missing Kuriya and Wahiro.
And the Tanjong Pagar mee sua and chendol.
Plus my mommy’s cooking….
This is extremely late, and I just have to get it posted before CNY.
I’m now typing this post on the train to Wen Zhou for CNY, which allowed me some free time to edit the photos. My laptop battery better last me till the end of this post!
Countdown was more than a month ago. The days are getting passed faster each year. Our initial plan was to bar-hop for the night but I went against it. We were hosting a Russian friend – Igor, and so we decided to start out with dinner at Inna’s place, having it the Russian way.
I was baffled at why they are decorating the Christmas tree on 31 Dec – it is so a Russian tradition.
Sergey was the chef for the night. I was amazed that this man can cook! Haha.
Some starters for the dinner – those mini sized whole cabbage is a tradition Russian dish.
Take a peep into the cheese fondue. Added with white wine for the extra omph~ super yummy!
I enjoyed dipping the bread, the cabbage, and the cold cuts into it. Yummy yummy.
Diet plans? Oh well, another day. Haha..
With Russians around, how could we miss out on authentic Russian vodka?
The dinner was excellent with the ever-flowing of vodka and food plus the jokes and laughter.
Sergey insisted on popping the champagne at midnight.
Such a cute act, standing in front of the TV, waiting for the 3, 2, 1.
Happy 2010!
It’s amazing how fate works. These 2 russian men, went to the same middle school back in Russia – different years though. And only here in Singapore, they met each other, on New Year’s eve! Just so coincidental!
After the countdown, we headed off to Attica to party on. However, the photos are too unglam! Haha. I’m not gonna show it here.
Alright, just one. Thanks guys for the great night! ![]()
my boss came to office with this big pack of red dates.

I have never seen such huge dates. They are bigger than my thumb!

I was never a red dates fan and where can you find red dates in Singapore? besides the ones for soups.
but these red dates are so delicious! huge and sweet, with no artificial flavouring/sweetener.
They are from this shop called – 好想你枣 (miss you very much dates). ahahah.. how interesting.
anyway, these red dates are not only nice, they are expensive too.
normal ones would usually cost 6-10rmb for 500g.
these dates are 138rmb for 1kg, which is the big packet that my boss bought. It contains 10 small packs.
i think i’ll just slowly savour the ones my boss bought.
late season greetings: Merry Christmas everyone!
I had a super uber great Christmas this year!!!! Hope yours was great too!
Christmas celebrations started out on the eve’s lunch with the girls.
We’re hanging out so often recently and i’m luving it!
We decided to eat home instead of standing in queues and pay for ridiculous festive menus.
Our Christmas Steamboat Feast!

Popiah + Cheese Tofu. Have you tasted it before?
I think it’s delicious! Saw it at the supermarket and though it was interesting.

Grilled Cheesy Prawns. Finger-licking goodies by Amy. =)

i lurve shhhrooomms.!

we’ve got crab claws, sotong balls, mushroom balls and sliced fish.

heheheh.. beef!

pork + chicken.

slurping away~

dessert was an adventurous one!
we had haagen-dazs ice-cream, dove amicelli wafer and nutella.
yes, our very own cold rock creamy creation~
chilled the metal bowl, crushed the amicelli wafer, added in the nutella and ice-cream.
stir & mix, stir & mix.

the ice-cream melted a fair bit. I guess we could do a ice-bowl below the metal bowl.
nevertheless, it still tasted blissful. can’t go wrong with nutella!
the christmas lunch ended off with a mini log cake.
Durian-flavoured from Emi Cakes. ![]()

On Christmas day, I set off early in the morning to Malacca for a relaxing retreat.
more updates to come! =)
Last week, we attended Kuriya’s Penthouse Grand Opening at Orchard Central.
we have been patrons of Kuriya for almost 2 years! It’s good to see them injecting new ideas into the market and expanding. I’m pretty excited about one of their new plans for next year. Hopefully I will be around to attend the opening!

Located at the top floor with contemporary decor, Kuriya Penthouse spells a twist to the traditional Japanese restaurants.

Emcee for the event was Benedict Goh!

Top quality sake barrel imported from Japan…

The serving wooden cups…

one, two, three and go~ i loved the sake, smooth and sweet. *slurps*

Everyone beamed at the free flow of food.

Food was needlessly to say – Excellent!
hohoho… the toro sushi was heavenly! ![]()

Side dishes – tofu, japanese yam, grilled cod fish..

Master Chef: Koezukan-san.

Japanese musicians… They did a collaboration and cut an album named “Kuriya”.

it’s so rare to see and hear them nowadays..

Award-winning bartender from Japan performing… he’s really good at his tricks!
green, yellow, orange cocktails.

The whole team from Kuriya Raffles City moved to Penthouse.
Love them all! Always providing the best service.
With Paul, Manager.

Girls’ Day Out in Orchard! I brought out my new toy to snap photos – so excited!

This year’s Christmas decorations have definitely caught my eyes!

Snowman Merry-Go-Round~

Hurhur, how I wish those rocher were real! Haha.. just pluck and pop into my mouth.

H-U-G-E! Every girl’s dream?

We settled down at Donghai for Dim Sum. Everything was good.
Could be great if they can cut down on the salt.

After lunch was coffee at Gloria Jeans.
We took 10 over attempts to capture everyone in the frame. =)

Meijin had company’s Dinner & Dance to attend so we ended the day early.
Me and Amy headed to her place and helped her doll up!

If you have not check out the Chocolate Research Facility, you’re missing out big time!

They have got a whole range of chocolates, from the original ones with different cocoa percentage to alcohol series, nut series, fruit series and exotic ones like cheese chocolate!
Of course, my favorite flavor has gotta be Lychee Martini! *bleams*
I bought one of the autumn winter series: Caramel with Sea Salt.
Reminds me of La Duree’s caramel macaron! ![]()

It’s kinda pricey for a small block of chocolate but it feels good to pamper oneself in a while!
though it would be even better if the money didnt came out from my pocket.
they should start accepting AMEX credit card!! lol.
I can never forget my 1st taste of hairy crabs in Shanghai. I thought hairy crabs were like the normal crabs we have here, except that it’s h-a-i-r-y. haha.
But it’s not that simple. The essence of hairy crab lies behind its shell – the whole lot of golden roe! It was marvellous~
Now, under the chef’s recommendation, we decided to try out the Japanese Hairy Crab:

Looks kinda scary and huge, nothing like the normal hairy crabs.
But smaller than Taraban Gani.
Chef preparing the hairy crab.

Similar to the Taraban Gani, it was partially served as sashimi:

We had it in soup as well. And then, the main course came:

This is what i mean by the “essence”:

ho-ho-ho! See the roe? *slurps*
it is not an uncommon sight to find expired products in my house. especially when we love to buy this and that, chucking them in the cupboards and long forgotten about it.
my mom was tidying up the kitchen and threw away a full bag of goodies. I didn’t know there’s an expiry date for olive oil. I mean, oil actually expires? haha.
we noticed several items nearing their datelines and one of it was the cake mixture that I bought in Paris.
Petits Moelleux au coeur fondant:

It wasn’t in its nice box packaging as I took out the contents and cut out the instructions to save on luggage space. Thankfully the expiry date was printed on the silver foil.
It’s an extremely easy recipe. I managed to make some sense out of the French instructions. Just mix the milk into the cake mixture and send it off to the oven!
After 15 minutes, out came the lovely chocolate moist cupcakes and the rich robust chocolate smell filled the house.

It is not as moist since I overbaked it. But it’s still super yummy! The chocolate taste great, comparable to the ones served at patisseries.
This is the 1st cake mixture pack that didn’t fail me. I was never successful with the cake/cookie mixtures I get in NTUC.
I can see that this will make great desserts for Christmas!
Now, i should go to the supermarket and get a tub of vanilla ice-cream!

Halo-ha! I think im looking so Hawaii with my perms. Haha..
Last weekend was spent furniture hunting.

Oh yeah, notice my blemishes are gone?! Ettusais White Shooter Dual Effect and White Serum Dual Effect have been such great buddies to me. My previous acne scars have lightened. Oh boy, can’t wait for them to vanish from my skin! The bad breakout from Shanghai had also recovered.
Where else to be at for furniture hunting? IKEA definitely!
And how can we miss out on the meatballs and chicken wings!?

It’s really no easy feat to do furnishing… I got tired after just 10mins of sofa-bed browsing.. haha. Kelvin shall go alone the next round. =p
Looks good? Feel like changing my wardrobe. I don’t have a full length mirror at home. ):
After we were done at IKEA, I hop down to Ettusais Counter to check out this month’s member specials.

Sheradine folded a lovely pink crane for me!! Thanks dear! ![]()

With the hectic schedule over the months, my face has suffered occasional acne attacks. My bad for packing too many things together, not drinking enough water and the lack of sleep. I guess it would have been worse if not for Ettusais. I have some acne that keep popping out at the same spots. This is so irritiating! I’m trying a new Ettusais product that targets this problem. Will do a review next month!
———————————————
Went down to Wahiro for dinner last night.
Chef Kim specially prepared a “flower” and a “heart” for me!
haha… lovely isn’t it?

this is pretty special. rectangular sushi + sushi ball. super yummy!

he even got me a slice of chocolate cake too! haha.. and not to miss my favourite sea urchin!!

I totally dig Japanese food.
alright, off i go. won’t be able to blog for the next 10 days. China blocks wordpress. how sad!
Met up with the girls over the weekend for an early birthday celebration.
Went down to Tiong Bahru for finger-licking good seafood!
I love the crabs there, super fresh and cheap~

After dinner, we headed for donuts and coffee!
And a cosmetic educational tour for jin and rebec. haha..

I have been craving for pasta ever since my trip to Italy.
(I have been craving for everything i had in Europe!)
Tried out the handmade ones at Da Paolo, which was not too bad. But they don’t serve Ravioli pasta.
Forlino is a young Italian restaurant, located at One Fullerton.
I always thought it was a fine dining setting since it’s under the Il Lido Group. oh boy was I surprised to see people in t-shirt and sports shoes!
Did u know that the entrance of Forlino is situated next to Butter Factory? There was a long way of stairs leading to the 3rd level.
I loved the light mint green walls with silvery gold fixtures. Reminds me of La Duree! haha..

We were given one of the best view seating. Looking out to the esplanade, merlion and Singapore Flyer.

It’s very much an open space concept.

with a long serving table in the middle of the room. Feels like a dinning hall in some castle.

Let’s kick in to everyone’s favourite -> FOOD!
We took on the traditional set menu, with the complimentary gourmet set for 2 from Citibank.
(yes, the meal was f-r-e-e! but we paid for the bottle of rose wine.)
Amuse Bouche was slices of duck meat with red pepper mouse.
(Trevor prepared this, and coincidentally, my favourite of the night)

we had free flow of foccacia bread. we had several servings.

Appetizer – Wild Mushrooms with Robbiala Cheese Fondue and Cornmeal.
I enjoyed wiping the plate clean with the foccacia bread.

Antipasta – Tagliolini with Clams and Green Chilli
In my opinion, I guess it would be better if it was done in Aglio Olio style.

my mains – Wagyu Beef Cheek with Herb Mashed Potato
I should stick to meat that are roasted/grilled instead of stew. I didnt finish it though the portion was small.

Kelvin’s main – Halibut and Asparagus with Orange & Martini Vermouth Sauce

Dessert – Molten Lava Chocolate Cake with Banana Gelato and Rum Sauce
It was just normal, very normal.

Petit Fours – in this case, Petit Three

Thankfully, we only had to pay for the rose wine. But even still, the rose white tasted like white wine instead.
Why is it so difficult to get good rose wines in Singapore. Yet, we call ourselves a global city.
Our next stop will be Il Lido, maybe next month, and I hope I will get to taste some ravioli pasta!
