Back-to-Baby Skin!

Last Friday, I popped over Ettusais Cafe for some tea while they introduced 3 new upcoming products.

The BB cream craze has been going on for years and I still remember the first few Korean brands that I have tried. I know BB creams work magically on many girls but somehow it’s just not my cup of tea?

This coming September (tomorrow!), Ettusais will be introducing 2 BB products – BB Mineral Cream and BB Mineral Powder, while BB stands for “Back-to-Baby” skin. (:

Here’s Satoko-san from Ettusais Japan!

The Ettusais BB Mineral Cream is formulated with 79% skin care ingredients and not forgetting the star ingredient AC-Control Oil (yes, banish those acne!!!).

Satoko-san demonstrating the steps.

Dap it around the face and spread from inner out.

Next is the Ettusais BB Mineral Powder, containing Baby Mineral Powder, Micro Soft Powder, Pore Graduating Mineral Powder and Smooth Fitting Powder.

This is the Baby Mineral Powder. It’s so soft and fine, almost feels like nothing. Wooooo…

These two lovely BB Mineral products will be out in stores this Friday! Do check it out at the Ettusais counters. (:

Personal reviews of the products will be up soon! ;)

Class of 2011

And so, I have officially graduated 3 weeks ago…

You might have heard about the hoo-ha on our valedictorian but please people, it was OUR convocation, not a public affair.

We managed to take a cohort photo before the ceremony started. I bet you can’t tell we were all perspiring madly behind those smiles!

Although I didn’t socialize much at school, it has still been a good 4 years journey with these peeps. (: I wished I had spent more time in school activities though.

I wasn’t any excited about my graduation until the moment I got on stage. On the contrary, recalling the moments of my Poly graduation, that was really happy.

Nevertheless, I am grateful to able to complete my degree studies.

My FYP team missed out on taking photos with Dr. P after the oral defense and so we hunted him down after the ceremony. He is one of the best professors in WKWSCI! :D

Ok, I’m starting to miss school already!

Taiwan Trip – Day 2

I have finally found some time to edit part of the Taiwan trip photos!

Day 2 itinerary was Jiufen. Initially, we planned to take the express bus. We got it all checked – bus number, boarding place, prices. As we arrived at the boarding place, we met a tour guide who was super friendly and promoted his tour packages to us.

We thought it would be more comfortable taking the car as compared to the bus and the package wasn’t too expensive. A day tour around the North-East area cost $50 each.

So we hopped on to his car! I must say it was really brave of us to do that. I mean, he could turn out to be a bad guy?

He drove us up to Jiufen, which is high up in the mountains, to our hostel.

He explained that this place used to stay only 9 households and accessibility was inadequate back then. Therefore, the 9 households took turns to go down hill and stock on groceries each time and the people living at the foot of the mountain called them “9 servings” (literally translation) over time…

Here’s our roof for the next 2 days. MJ took back brochures from NATAS fair and we decided on Windsor Hostel. They have different rooms of different views and decor.

Stepping in to our room. We were delighted at the decor and the magnificent view. It feels so peaceful, away from the hustling of the city. Initially, we were afraid that it might be a wrong choice to stay in Jiufen for 2 nights. After seeing this, we totally want to stay on longer!

Here’s the view from our bedroom! Yes, we wake up to the beautiful scenery of mountains and the sea. (:

Lovely, isn’t it!

We all loved the bathroom, especially the bath tub!

After leaving all our luggages at the hostel, we began our tour! First stop was the Gold Ecological Park, where it used to be a gold mine before the Japanese took over Taiwan. It is located at the top of another mountain.

Houses that were built during the Japanese occupation.

Parts of the goldmine park:

As we drove down from the mountain, our second stop was the “river of gold”. Over the years, the minerals from gold and other metals flow along the river and created this:

I was pretty mesmerized by the rich golden hue. Totally beautiful piece of art done by mother nature.

Guess what’s Rebecca doing!?

The tour guide suggested that the huge rock looks like a frog and therefore, we tried to “touch” it!

The good thing about having a tour guide? He takes group photos for us!! *hehe*

Moving on, he brought us to the top of a deserted building.

It had a wonderful sea view and we stood by the edge for photo! Don’t be deceived by our smiles. We were so scared squatting there!

Now, here’s the most exciting part of our trip! See that curvy road?

You might have recognized it as a scene from the movie, Initial D. This is a hotspot for car drivers who love to drift~ Why do I say this is the most exciting part of our trip? Because our tour guide brought us drifting!!! HOW COOL IS THAT~ 4 of us plus himself in his Mazda and we went drifting all the way from the top to the end. We really wondered what have we gotten ourselves into but the experience was absoutely one of its kind! And definitely, the $50 tour fee is worth every single cent. :D

After such excitement, we headed to Pi Tou Jiao for a stopover and had some seafood!

Everything here for just $15? FRREAKKing cheap!! And it was so fresh and delicious. My favourite has gotta be the mini abalones. :) Tasty, juicy and tender. The grilled fish and crispy jade prawns were superb as well~

We went on to a suspension bridge after filling our stomachs.

Our next stop was the beach at the other end…

Walking through the soft flowy sand…. It has been a long long time since I went to the beach.

Mesmerized by the blue skies…

The usuals, a jump shot! This one was a failed shot by the way. :P

Jump for joy~

Wooohoooo~

The main purpose of the tour guide bringing us to the beach was not for the beach. There was a sand sculpture exhibition going on but we preferred the beach instead. :P

Anyway, here’s a sculpture that I’m extremely impressed with!

A group shot before leaving the beach! Our tour guide was waiting for us at the other side of the beach, therefore we resorted to self-taking.

Our final stop was the Shi Fen Train Station. The interesting thing about Taiwan train stations is that you can get to collect chops! Every train station has their unique chops and there are people who specially go around Taiwan to collect the chops in a little booklet.

After stamping them onto our postcards, we started coloring them!

Our tour guide brought us to set fireworks too! Not those that we see during NDP, it’s the smaller types. These are available in Malaysia, Taiwan and China. I have played fireworks several times in Shanghai.

Last but not least, ending off the trip with a “Heaven Lantern” (another literally translation). We got to write our wishes on it and set it off into the sky….

A photo with our awesome tour guide before he sent us back to our hostel. :)

Post-FYP Celebrations!

Although FYP had long ended and results were out some time ago, we only managed to find some common time at the beginning of the month for our celebration.

We went to a Korean BBQ place opposite SGH, recommended by Xinyi.

Initially we were skeptical about the “restaurant” as it was lunch hour and yet the place was empty! Furthermore, there was a smell and I thought to myself “oh dear….”.

The complimentary side dishes.

Everything turned out pretty acceptable. We ordered quite a fair bit of food – mix platter, meat platter, rice cake, kimchi and pancake.

We ordered beer to toast too! The beer was freaking cheap.

Toast to our awesome group! & the awesome awesome grade, not forgetting our awesome supervisor!!! :D

Overall, it is wallet-friendly and the standard matches the prices. Don’t expect much on the service and selection of food. We paid only $10 each!

If you thinking of giving it a try, I’m not sure if they are still around. The boss told us that they will be moving soon.

Well, I still prefer my favourite Korean BBQ place at Amara Hotel. :p

After a fulfilling meal, we headed off for some desserts and the destination was Shaw Towers!

With Wen Jing and her iPhone apps, we managed to hop on a direct bus to Tom’s Palette! :)

I ordered the Salted Caramel and Yuzu flavours.

WJ actually reminded me of the student discount when we were ordering and yet I totally forgot about it when making payment. -_-” So, the next time you visit Tom’s Palette, please remember to flash your student card for discount!

XY just returned from her Japan trip and got us some goodies!

It’s some black sesame “egg”…. She got it off at a department store in Tokyo~

The outer is covered with a thin thin layer of white chocolate…

The inner consist of another 3 layers – biscuit/cake, powdery sesame and thick sesame paste.

It’s a mix of sweet and savoury. Not to my liking.

Before we parted ways, we took a group photo and pun intended!!! hahahahahaha..

Convocation is in 2 days’ time and I can’t wait to see everyone. We are gonna have a cohort photo-taking session in our good-old WKWSCI campus! That’s gonna be fun~ :)

Cheesy Domino’s

If you are a cheese lover, you are gonna love me for this entry! whaahha.. :P

A few days ago, I was invited to Domino’s Pizza tasting session.
(thank you OMY.)

They have recently launched a new pizza crust – The Cheese Burst Crust.

What’s so special about this cheese burst crust? It has a layer of creamy cheddar cheese sauce spread in between two very thin crust which gives the burst of cheese when you bite down on the pizza! :)

We were served with 5 different Pizzas – Hawaiian Paradise, Extravaganzza, Classy Chic, Classic Pepperoni and Chilli Chicken.

Frankly speaking, I have never been a fan of pizza chains and I dislike pan pizzas. I am a thin crust person.

What made me went for Domino’s Tasting Session was the recommendations by many of my friends. I have heard raves about Domino’s Pizza but never had a chance to try it. I wonder why.

So I tried the Classic Pepperoni on Cheese Burst Crust

Also the Hawaiian Paradise on Cheese Burst Crust…

Look at that! LOOK AT THAT!!! Check out the cheese.

So C-H-E-E-S-Y! ;) woohoo~ I’m a cheese fanatic. hahaha..

Happy bloggers enjoying the yummy tasty pizzas!

BBQ Chicken Wings

Crazy Chicken Crunchies. It is marinated with Tom Yam seasoning. Thumbs up for this!

Breadstix

Are you thinking what I’m thinking!? *SCREAMS* CHOCOLATE LAVA CAKE~

Chocolate lava oozing out. :D The cake is soft and moist with a slight crisp on the surface. Nice and sweet!

We were all given the chance to visit their kitchen and make our own pizzas!! Here’s me, samantha, yingzi and william getting geared up.

It was so fun and I wished I have photos to show you but photography was not allowed in the kitchen.

Me and yingzi waiting for our pizzas to be out from the oven.

Here you go! Handmade by ME.

I made “Jeanine’s Pizza”. haaha.. I didn’t follow their combinations. I added mushrooms, onions, smoked chicken breast and beef pepperoni.

We are proud of our works!

Domino’s ROCKS! :D

I have to say that I am really impressed with Domino’s Pizza. Not only are they generous with the ingredients, the crust is tasty too! I am loving the Prawn Sensation (served later with hand tossed crust, i have no photos of it as it was snapped up when served) and Classic Pepperoni. And of course, the Chocolate Lava Cake. :)

But I’m sad! They don’t deliver to Tampines. :(

As Domino’s introduced the 30 minute delivery guarantee, they want to make sure that they live up to the promise. Therefore, they only make deliveries to places where they have a presence.

I hope Domino’s open up in Tampines soon. Do you know that their prices are nett prices and provides free delivery! That’s some awesomeness~ There’s also online only offers, like the Chocolate Lava Cake goes at half price when you order online.

So if you are planning to call in Domino’s delivery for your gatherings, please check Domino’s website to find out if they deliver to your area.

Fancl Make Up Puff Cleaner

No doubt, it is important to have good make up tools to aid us in achieving that flawless look. At the same time, we need to keep our tools clean and free from bacteria too!

The tip commonly said is to use soap and water to clean your puff and brushes. But I’m not a fan of that, especially for brushes. If you are using quality tools (they don’t come cheap), you wanna make sure it is kept in its best condition to prolong its usability.

I discovered this puff cleaner from FANCL many years back and I have sticked to it since then.

I use it to give my make up sponge and puff a good “bath” every week. I’m using the wedge sponge from Shu Uemera for my mousse and liquid makeup products.

Squeeze a few drops of the liquid on to the puff/sponge.

Spread the liquid all over and make sure it covers most part of the puff/sponge.

Add some water to it.

Rub and squeeze the sponge to mix the water and liquid together.

You will start to notice that there’s lesser residue on your sponge/puff.

Put in under the tap and run water throughout. Continue to rub and squeeze the sponge till the water turns clear.

When you are done, squeeze dry and hang it dry!

Look at my lovely sponge, returning to its former glory. hahahaaha..

Gastromania Feast @ Far East Square

Far East Square is somewhere that I have not step foot into before. My impression of it before yesterday, was just another office area, that doesn’t have much going on.

The invitation to the Gastromania Feast from omy.sg had changed my impression of this place. Little did I know it is a heritage conservation project, opened in 1999; and it now host a vibrant mix of restaurants, cafes, and pubs, as well as shops, pushcarts and kiosks.

So the bloggers were set out for half a day of food trail @ Far East Square. Our day began at 11am, with the 1st stop @ Zhou’s Kitchen.

Upon walking into the restaurant, I felt refreshed with the simple and clean decor in white and green.

Zhou’s Kitchen was conceptualized by TungLok with a new casual Chinese dinning concept, aiming to provide customers with the “dinning at home” feeling. As introduced, their dishes are mostly made from private home recipes.

I browsed through the menu and immediately spotted so many of my favourite dishes! Sliced Pork with Garlic Sauce, Deep fried Prawns with Wasabi Mayo Sauce, Crispy Beancurd with Salted Pepper, Red Bean Pancake and so many more……. *drools*

We were served the Zhou’s Kitchen Braised Pork Shank, together with fried and steam buns.

I took my first portion of the pork shank, preserved pickles and vegetables. I expected the whole pork shank to be well-simmered – soft and tender but, the piece I took was kinda dry and tough. I liked the preserved vegetables – although I have no idea what it is exactly. haha.. It is crunchy and has a mix of sour and savoury taste.

On my 2nd serving, I chose another part of the shank, nearer to the skin and wow…. It was tender, soft and almost melt in my mouth.

It could have be better if the whole shank was tender. The sauce isn’t too salty and it went well with fried buns! (no more exclusivity to chilli crabs! haha.)

The building that hosts Ju Chun Yuan now was a former school, to be exact, the first Chinese school.

I particular liked the design of the 2nd floor. (:

Another refreshing moment: Floral Tea. This helps to cleanse our palette and prep our taste buds for the next dish!!! :D

You heard about this. You probably have eaten something like it during weddings or proper chinese dinners. BUT, THIS ONE HERE >>> is as authentic as it can be.

Buddha Jumps Over The Wall 佛跳墙

It is said that this world-renowned dish was created at JuChunYuan Fuzhou back in 1865. Yes, the restaurant in Fuzhou has a history of 146 years! The Singapore outlet opened in 2007.

This delicacy is a rich combination of shark’s fin, abalone, scallop sea cucumber, fish maw, cuttlefish, pork tendon, flower mushroom and other ingredients.

This single portion (below) cost $98 while the big pot (above) is priced at $1288 and takes 1 day of preparations!

We were served a sampler portion and it was such a satisfying moment. The broth is excellent – rich and tasty, full of the seafood flavour. All the ingredients were so yummy – abalone was soft and chewy, scallop was juicy, pork tendon was soft and tender. Every single bit was excellent.

Although it was only a sampler portion, I felt it was just the right amount. The manager was explaining to us that the big pot serves 10 people with 2 servings each. Usually, when customers order this delicacy, it will be the main course and he recommends to order 1-2 side vegetable dishes to go along with it.

The group of us getting seated and ready for our 3rd dish!

3rd refreshing moment: Calamansi Soda.

At Paruda, they are famous for their Fried Chicken with Blue Ginger Floss.

I was served the wing portion. The blue ginger floss is also the signature of this dish. The manager told us that many of their customers return for this floss. With that being said, I tried the floss first and it was a pretty interesting taste.

I went on to the meat part and I was taken aback by how tender and juicy the chicken was! I could easily separate the meat and bone with the fork and spoon and the blue ginger floss went really well with the meat. I was craving for more when I finished my portion and of course, I cleared the floss too! =P

I was kinda excited when I learnt that we were heading to Shin Kushiya next. I had dined at the Vivo outlet twice and I liked it.

The chef preparing the kushiyaki for us. (:

Anyone knows what is the difference between Yakitori and Kushiyaki?

Yakitori is basically grilled chicken only while Kushiyaki can be done in almost any ingredient (seafood, vegetables).

From right to left: Tomato Maki, Ebi Shiso Maki, Buta Bara Yaki Miso, Black Pepper Yakitori

My favourite among the 4 has gotta be the TOMATO MAKI~ It is wrapped with a thin sliced of pork and you will get a burst of juice in your mouth when you bite down on the tomato maki. We were told that they used pork instead of bacon for a less salty taste. And I think using pork is indeed a better choice. Bacon tends to turn hard (sometimes crispy if you’re lucky) while pork remains soft and tender.

At Shin Kushiya, they served 2 interesting types of salt to go with the kushiyaki. Both gives a different light to the food.

Now, here’s the highlight of the trail! Many of us agreed. :D

Kuro Goma Heaven. And yes, it was HEAVENLY~ How aptly named!

It’s black sesame ice cream with black sesame paste. It is rich in the flavour and yet not over-powering. It gives a lingering fragrant in the mouth too. By adding black sesame paste to it, it simply enhances the flavour to another level and this is just so awesome! I love it to the MAX~ :)

I just like how all these restaurants keep their decor clean. Minimalistic is the way to go!

MONT was so generous and they served us 3 different pizzas and pastas.

I tried the Smoked Salmon Pizza and…

Parma Ham with Rucola Pasta.

This is my first time having smoked salmon in a pizza and I’m kinda liking it. It has fetta cheese hidden under the leaves and the combination of fetta cheese and smoked salmon can never go wrong.

I have a thing for parma ham. But this didn’t taste very well as the pasta was cold by the time I had it. The quality of parma ham is pretty up to standard, i must say.

By now, you must be thinking, “how much food did you guys had!” Well, this is only the 5th stop, 3 more to go!

So the 6th stop is @ Mirchi - taste of India.

They serve authentic North Indian food. Oh boy, I miss those days of having indian food at TP Mensa foodcourt with the girls.

This is the Tandoori Platter. There’s lamb, chicken, fish and prawn.

And yes, they served us Mango Lassi too! One of my favourites. I am not a big fan of Indian cuisine so I can’t give much comments about the food. All were good except for the lamb, which I feel it dry and too spicy for me.

The tandoori fish is definitely worth a try, especially dipping it into the Mango Chutney sauce. :)

Hock Lam Beef is celebrating their 100th year mark this October!

Their first proper stall was set up on Hock Lam Street (which doesn’t exist anymore today).

Back in those days….

Original Mixed Beef Kway Teow with Soup. Just by standing outside their place, you can already smell the fragrant of the beef stock. Needlessly to say, the soup tasted marvellous.

My favourite was the sliced beef. It was still pinkish when served to me and by the time we dig in, it was at its optimal texture. Yum Yum. The boss told us that even till today, the beef slices are hand sliced and not machine cut.

Watch my review of the Beef Kway Teow:
Feast on world delicacies at Far East Square

Our last stop (finally! so full.) @ Oni Cupcakes.

Oni Cupcakes was founded upon the passion in designing cupcakes.

We were served mini cupcakes! So adorable.

I tried the Nuts About You and Mango Tango. The flavours were strong but I didn’t liked the cake itself. I felt it was like a normal butter cake.

So, this marked the end of our food trail, leaving us with a very very filling stomach!

Yet, there were still so many more restaurants at Far East Square that we didn’t go. There is Bergs Gourmet Burgers (I have heard good reviews of); Quiznos Sub is good (I have tried the outlet at ICON); Mr Teh Terik Cartel (famous for Teh Terik!) and so many more good food places to be explored!

After hearing and seeing so many yummy places @ Far East Square, here’s your chance to win some dinning vouchers!

Vote for me here —> http://contest.omy.sg/let-the-feast-begin-gastromania and 5 lucky voters will win $50 dinning vouchers each~ (;

I’m still trying to get used to see myself on oh! poupée. ahahaha..

I couldn’t stop laughing when I saw the 1st version of this preview image.

Anyways, back to oh! poupée, we launched a mini collection last night. As you can see, we brought in 5 colors of the Ruffle Pleated Maxi Dress. I kept the blue one for myself! Hee. Am eyeing on the other colors too.

We are doing a pre-order for the Dainty Pearl Satchel. We fell in love with it when we received the sample from our supplier.

20110705-032922.jpg
It’s so pretty isn’t it! We thought it would be overly “dainty” and “princess-like” but after doing the product shoot, we just love it even more! The pearls are detachable, so you can have a more demure look instead!

Can’t wait for the stocks to arrive in August~ (:

Shop at www.ohpoupee.com now!

Guerlain Fall 2011 Makeup

Taiwan Trip – Day 1

As mentioned earlier, this is our very first trip out together.  I was really excited as it has been a very long time since I travelled with friends. Besides, I knew we were gonna have lots of great time in Taiwan!

We opted for budget air, Tiger (we booked the tickets way in advance and regretted cos’ Jetstar matched up the price later) and arrived at Taoyuan Aiport in the night.

Can you believe that I saw my friend when we were clearing customs!!? Little did we know that we will bump into more familiar faces over the week.

We took FeiGou Express Bus which sends us directly to our hotel, Rainbow Hotel @ XiMenDing. Pretty convenient and the journey took about 1hour.

It was close to 10pm when we reached the hotel and dinner was settled at the roadside stalls along XiMenDing.

It was an interesting sight to see how the hawkers “run away” from the police. They just simply move to another corner and return to their original spots when the police cars have left.

You definitely gotta try the Guavas in Taiwan. You can get it from any fruit stalls. They charged by weight and often, 1 packet (it’s huge) of guava cost about $7. But it’s definitely worth for the taste!

One of our favourite roadside food is this prata-look-alike. I ordered it with cheese and egg, oh boy, it’s marvelous!!

Nothing much done on the first night as we were prepping ourselves for our JiuFen trip the next day.
