i couldnt say no to Kuriya. =)
but i had absolutely no idea what i was getting myself into.
We started the dinner slow and light, since Kelvin was coughing…
Ordered some of the usuals…

Sushi balls on bamboo. cute. haha…

Master Chef, Kuyizuka-san grinding fresh wasabi for us.
He was sharing with us his trip back to Japan. Brought back a bottle of superior sake. Really smooth and sweet. shiok!
As we were drinking and having sushi, Kuyizuka offered us something really special.

I know it looks digusting. Remember puffer fish? This lump is removed from puffer fish.
Erm… how should i say it? It’s the poison in the puffer fish, the liver.
Something that is extremely rare to get. Kuyizuka was telling us that the poison in the liver was removed using a special traditional technique and it takes 5 years for the process to be completed. As well, this process can only be carried out specific location of japan. (can’t remember the name.)
I must say it is an honour to be able to taste it. But again, I was terrified. I mean, its POISON!!! People die eating puffer fish that is not properly handled. AND HERE I AM, tasting the it.

Of course, you dont bite a part of that big chunk… It’s served in slices.
I was really nervous and scared about tasting it. The fear arose… Held tight to Kelvin’s hands…
Kuyizuka ensured us that it’s perfectly safe to consume it. Japan’s AVA had tested and aprroved it. Every single chunk. And he himself and Tatara-san had taken it over a few days with sake. And they are still alive. haha..
So I gathered my courage and pop a piece into my mouth. hmmm… ok, the taste was salty. texture was like dried roe.. Goes really good with sake!
Oh well, i’m still alive. lol.. It’s hell of a chance to have tasted it. Moreover, they are NOT serving it at kuriya. It’s only for close personal friends… =)
