slacked through more than half the day. haix. can’t seem to concentrate at home. the readings are piling up.. tons of notes to print and i’ve have got some research and homework to do..
some thoughts struck me the other day. maybe i should quit school, get a bank loan and do my own business. what’s the objective of doing a degree? seriously, i always labelled it as a stepping stone into the society. Now that i think through, degree is merely a tool for career advancement in organizations. But if i’m determined to be my own boss, why should i waste the 4 yrs? And after the 4 years, I will need to spend another 3 years to pay back my sch fees. by the time i’m 27. It’s gonna take extra 2-3yrs to build up the capital for my venture. Then, i will be 30. I would probably have kids by then.
truthfully speaking, no one will agree that the the knowledge and skills we learnt in school are usefully in the working life.
A question was posed to the HDB Loan Officer who recently graduated from NUS – “How was your Uni life?”
She replied, “The overseas exchange program to Holland was marvellous. Other than that, nothing worth to mention.”
Her answer set me into thinking. Frankly speaking, i would give the same reply. “Other than the Shanghai trip, and the friends i made, nothing worth mentioning about my poly life.”
Looking at people around me,
My parents – secondary school -> food stall owner (hardwork)
Kally – ‘O’ levels -> owns assest wine management
Jeffrey – Engineering Diploma -> entering partnership into marketing company
Kelvin – Degree in Architecture -> ministry of trade and industry
nobody in the family will support me to quit school. what an irony.
Kallem said it would be difficult to join back the working world if the business failed and i’m w/o the degree.
Alternatively, if my electives exemptions go through, studies and business may proceed at the same time.
